What people get wrong about Ford navigation

Myth. The maps of all Ford navigation systems can be updated. In fact. Not all of them. The oldest systems only show directions, and we do not update TravelPilot EX and NX models.
Myth. Phone navigation replaces the built-in system. In fact. A phone is convenient, but the built-in system works without internet and shows the route right in the instrument cluster.
Myth. An update replaces the entire system. In fact. Only the map data is updated. The system’s appearance and functions stay the same.
Myth. It is enough to download a map file from anywhere. In fact. An unsuitable file may not be recognised by the system or may disrupt it, so it is important to choose the version according to the system and year.

Which Ford navigation you have and what we can do for it

Ford installed different systems in different years, so you first need to find out which one is yours. This depends on the model’s year of manufacture and the look of the screen.

The oldest systems (1998–2010, monochrome screen) only show directions without a map. Their job is to display arrows, so there is nothing to update.

DENSO DVD – Focus, Mondeo, C-Max, S-Max, maps on DVD discs.
Blaupunkt TravelPilot FX – approximately 2007–2012 C-Max, Focus, Galaxy, Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max, Transit.
MCA – 2010–2015 Mondeo, S-Max, Galaxy, Kuga.
SYNC and SYNC 2 (MyFord Touch) – Fiesta, Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, Transit, Mustang and others.
TravelPilot EX and NX – we do not update these.

If you are unsure about the system type, take a photo of the screen when it is on and show it to the technician, and you will find the year of manufacture in the vehicle registration certificate.

Is it worth updating an old Ford map

A Ford map that is more than five years old usually does not know about new roundabouts, bypasses and changed traffic directions. For example, Mondeo MK4 drivers often complain that the navigation leads them along a section that has already been closed.

An update usually costs much less than buying new equipment or replacing the head unit. If you only need navigation occasionally, a phone is enough, but built-in navigation shows the route right in the instrument cluster, which is more convenient. If the system is slow or freezes anyway, first have a diagnostic done so that you know whether the problem is in the maps or in the equipment itself.

Ford models and frequently asked questions

Ford Mondeo MK4 navigation – what can be updated?

Mondeos built between 10.2007 and 08.2010 most often have TravelPilot FX, and those built between 09.2010 and 09.2014 have the MCA system. We can update both; we just need to see which one is installed.

Do you update Ford Transit navigation?

Yes: Transit 2008.09–2012.06 with TravelPilot FX, Transit 2014–2015 and Transit Connect 2012–2016 with the SYNC system. First, we identify the exact system.

Can Ford Fiesta or Kuga navigation be updated?

The Fiesta with the SYNC system and the Fiesta ST 2014–2015 can be updated. Kuga: from 2008 – TravelPilot FX, 2010–2012 – MCA, the newer 2014–2015 – SYNC 2.

Which countries do the updated maps cover?

Most often it is all of Europe with a detailed map of Lithuania: Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany and other countries. The exact list depends on the system.

Can I update the Ford map myself?

Some systems can be updated this way if you have the correct map file and know the procedure. A wrong file can disrupt the system, so many people bring their car to a technician.
