Common Subaru navigation complaints

The navigation does not know new roads and roundabouts

Myths about car navigation

  • Myth. If the navigation shows an old map, it is faulty. In fact. Most often the data is simply outdated. After a map update everything usually works as before.
  • Myth. All Subarus use the same maps. In fact. No. The set differs by system (C1, C2, DVD, SD), model and year, so it is important to first determine which one is yours.
  • Myth. A phone always replaces the original navigation. In fact. A phone needs internet and a charged battery, while the original system works without a connection. Both options have their place.

Which Subaru navigation system is in your car

The map set depends on the car model, the year and whether it was imported from Europe or from the USA. So before getting in touch, it is worth knowing the model and year of manufacture, and ideally having the car’s documents at hand.

Map updates are offered for these systems: C1, C2, US cars with DVD and US cars with an IGO Harman Kardon SD card.

  • C2 – Forester 2007–2012, Impreza 2008–2012, Legacy and Outback 2007–2012.
  • C1 – Forester and Legacy 2003–2007, Outback 2004–2007, Tribeca 2006–2010.
  • US with DVD – Forester, Impreza, Legacy, Outback and Tribeca.
  • IGO Harman Kardon SD (only Subaru from the USA) – Impreza and Impreza WRX from mid-2012, BRZ and XV Crosstrek from mid-2013, Forester from mid-2012, Legacy and Outback from mid-2013.

If you do not know which system is in your car, call and tell us the model and year – we will consult before you come in.

What the map sets include

The maps for C1, C2 and US DVD versions are divided into three discs by region. CD 1 covers Western and Northern Europe: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the Scandinavian countries, the United Kingdom and others.

CD 2 is for France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Andorra and Monaco. CD 3 – for Central and Eastern Europe: Lithuania (in detail), Latvia, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Turkey and other countries.

IGO Harman Kardon SD: your card is updated

In this system, your original working SD card is updated with the latest maps of all Europe and Russia. It is important that the card is working – we cannot perform an update from a faulty or lost card.

This is an option for cars imported from the USA. This set is not suitable for Subarus intended for the European market.

When the navigation is not outdated, but not working

If the screen is blank, the system cannot find your location, or it no longer reads the disc or card, new maps may not be enough. In that case, diagnostics come first – there is no point guessing by buying another disc.

Initial diagnostics cost 10 €, and the fault is identified within 1–2 business days. The price is given after diagnostics and agreed in advance, and work continues only with your consent.

Before you come in, try switching off the engine, waiting a few minutes and restarting the system – sometimes this clears a temporary glitch.

How the work is done

You bring in the car’s navigation media or come in for advice – you can call first. The service points are open Monday–Friday 9:00–18:00 and closed on weekends.

A 12-month warranty is provided for map updates. You can find more general information about this service on the navigation map update page.
