What people get wrong about Porsche navigation

  • Myth. A phone app completely replaces Porsche navigation. In fact. A phone is convenient, but the built-in navigation shows the route on the car’s screen and works without internet.
  • Myth. All Porsches use the same maps. In fact. PCM 2.0 maps come on eight CDs, while PCM 2.1 uses a single list of countries, so you first need to know your system version.
  • Myth. Updating the map is pointless if the car is old. In fact. If the model is on the supported list, the update provides newer road data and detailed Lithuania.

Which Porsche map versions we update

PCM 2.1 maps cover 33 countries: the entire Baltic region, Poland, Germany, Scandinavia, the Benelux countries, Southern Europe and small states such as Monaco or San Marino. Lithuania is shown in detail. The list applies to the 911 Carrera, GT2, GT3, Targa 4, Turbo, Boxster, Cayenne and Cayman, 2006–2008.

For the PCM 2.0 system, the maps are divided by country across eight CDs. For example, CD 1 covers the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany, CD 3 covers Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Great Britain, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, and CD 8 covers Lithuania (detailed), Latvia, Estonia, Poland and other neighboring regions.

If you only drive around Lithuania and the Baltic states, the most important one is CD 8 with detailed Lithuania; choose the others according to your routes.

How to tell that your Porsche map is outdated

The signs are simple: a new stretch of motorway or a bypass appears as an empty area, the system tells you to turn where the road has changed, and an address in a new neighbourhood cannot be found. If you notice these things several times, the data is most likely out of date.

If the navigation in your Cayenne or Boxster does not switch on at all or shows an error, the problem may lie not with the map but with the unit itself. In that case, you can call us for advice and describe what is shown on the screen.

What to bring to the service

  • The car with the navigation system
  • The known PCM version (2.0 or 2.1), if you know it
  • A list of the countries you visit most often
  • A note of the error shown on the screen, if there is one
