Saab navigation is usually complained about in two ways: the screen and system work but the map is outdated, or the unit does not respond at all or does not read the disc. In the first case the maps need to be updated; in the second, you first need to determine what has failed.

This page covers which map sets are offered for the different generations of the Saab 9-3 and 9-5, which faults occur, and how diagnostics work. For map updates in general, read the navigation map update page.

Myths about Saab navigation

Myth. If the map is old, the system is broken. In fact. Most often the map version is simply outdated. A fault is indicated only when the system does not turn on or does not read the disc.
Myth. One disc fits all Saab 9-5. In fact. The sets differ by the manufacturer of the navigation unit and by year – the systems of 2002–2007, 2004–2009 and 2010–2012 are not the same.
Myth. A new disc will fix any problem. In fact. If the reader or the electronics are at fault, a new disc will not help. Diagnostics will show this.

Which Saab models have maps available

Map sets are divided by the manufacturer of the navigation unit and the year of the car. The same model may have a different system in different years, so „Saab 9-5” alone is not enough – the year of manufacture is also important.

The map service is provided in Vilnius and Kaunas. The maps come with a 12-month warranty.

Saab 9-5, 2002–2007 – Denso G00/G01 system; Eastern and Western Europe sets are available.
Saab 9-5, 2004–2009 – Denso system with three discs (CD 1–CD 3).
Saab 9-3, 2005–2009 – Aisin system with four discs (CD 1–CD 4).
Saab 9-5, 2010–2012 – Aisin with HDD; the same set is also mentioned for the Chevrolet Volt 2011–2013 and the Opel Ampera 2011–2013.

Before you come, find the car’s year of manufacture in the vehicle registration certificate – with it, the technician will immediately know which set fits.

Which disc includes Lithuania

In many sets, Lithuania is marked as a „detailed” map – this means you will see not only highways but also city streets. Other countries may be displayed in less detail.

For example, in the Denso 2002–2007 set, Lithuania is in the Eastern Europe set together with Latvia, Estonia, Poland and other countries. In the Aisin system for the 9-3 model, Lithuania is on the fourth disc together with the Scandinavian and Baltic countries. Therefore, for a trip to Western Europe, you sometimes have to change the disc.

If you often travel abroad, ask which discs you need, and don’t take everything in sequence.

Repair: what we check and what we don’t promise in advance

If the Saab navigation does not turn on, does not read the disc or shows an error, we first perform an initial diagnostic. It costs 10 €, and we identify the fault within 1–2 business days.

After the diagnostics, the technician tells you what was found and how much the repair would cost. The repair begins only with your consent, and the price is agreed in advance. Whether a specific unit can be repaired is clear only after inspection.

When a map update may not be enough

A new disc will not help if the reader is worn out or the system freezes because of the electronics. In that case, the system may not display even a new disc. Therefore, if nothing changes after replacing the disc, it is better to consult a technician than to buy another set.

Price and timeframe. After the diagnostics, we tell you what is wrong, how much the repair will cost and how long it will take. We do not start the repair without your consent.
Repair or map update. Once the price is agreed, the repair is carried out. The map update is provided in Vilnius and Kaunas.
Pickup. You collect the device with a warranty; a 12-month warranty applies to the map update.
